Matt spends all of his time cycling, rock climbing, and trail running(If he’s really lucky, he’ll get to sneak in a backpacking or bikepacking trip).  He was a bicycle mechanic for two years in the town of Hilo, Hawaii before joining Bicycles East in 2016. He's been riding trails for at least 15 years, but still can’t do a proper manual.  Matt has worked at an active volcano, an orchid farm, a 1920’s theater, as well as a bakery, and pizza and sushi joints. He enjoys working on suspension, hydraulics, shifting systems, and long moonlit walks on the beach.

As the son of the owners, Andy grew up in Bicycles East. Over time, he has performed a variety of tasks in the store, building bikes as a teenager and eventually finding a passion for customer service. Andy loves working with customers and wants to see everyone on a bike they love, finding pride with every match. He continues to build his skills, working to learn the art and science of bike fit from his father, Steve. Outside the store, Andy is a senior at the University of New Haven, studying sound recording and political science. He has a deep passion for music and is always happy to talk about it.

John brings us a diverse list of life experiences. A UCONN grad, he has a degree in child development and family relations. His jobs have included tobacco worker, map maker, wilderness school and Nature’s Classroom staff, pre-school teacher, stay at home dad, cabinet maker, gallery manager corporate and animation photographer, and, for several years, bicycle mechanic. He demonstrates his love of Italy by easily eating 1 1b of pasta in a single sitting, believing that Fasto Coppi was the greatest cyclist of all time, and eating cake on Enzo Ferrari’s birthday. On almost a daily basis, you can find John riding his vintage 26 year old steel bike with downtube shifters, and he is not afraid to use them.

Mick has been gradually moving eastward. He comes to us originally from Danville, California via Indiana. He grew up as a hockey goalie, winning two Indiana state high school championships being selected to Team Indiana his senior year. He served our country as an F-16 weapons systems mechanic in the US Air Force, stationed at Hill AFB, Utah. After that, Mick attended Indiana University, studied abroad at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England and earned his degree in Political Science minoring in French. His interest in cycling came from his dad and uncle who raced the Little 500 at Indiana University, a race that will be familiar to anyone who has watched the iconic bike movie Breaking Away. He has worked on bikes ever since his college graduation and moved to Connecticut in 2013, joining the Bicycles East team. Mick enjoys riding out on the road and is planning to hopefully start racing in the near future.
