Nate Clapp - extended

Nate Clapp

Nate is Bicycles East’s Service Manager.

Nate was an avid bike rider from the very beginning.  Growing up in New Milford, Connecticut, Nate always enjoyed riding and working on bikes.  At age 13 he got his first BMX bike and was immediately hooked.  After that, Nate spent almost all of his free time on a bike, learning tricks and building ramps.  Eventually, he became so well-known at the local bike shop that when he turned 16, he was offered a job.

Nate spent the next few years working during the bike season and competing in the 60m and 110m high hurdles on the varsity track team.  After high school, Nate attended the University of Connecticut studying Economics, still working at local bike shops all throughout his time there.

After college, Nate found a listing for a job at Bicycles East (at that time in their South Glastonbury location).  They were looking for an experienced mechanic and in 2008 Nate’s relationship with Bicycles East began.  Over the following years, Nate has expanded upon his repair skills, soon earning the title of Service Manager.   During his tenure with Bicycles East, Nate has received in-depth, hands on training from many bicycle component manufacturers such as Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo, Rockshox, Avid, Fox Factory Racing, and many more.

As well as keeping up to date with all of the latest industry standards, Nate has also worked with Steve to create a comprehensive training program for all new mechanics, ensuring that the mechanics at Bicycles East are of the highest caliber possible.   Every mechanic at Bicycles East has not only been trained how to complete any repair, but they have also had hands-on experience working on one of our three specifically designed training bikes, making sure that they have practical experience before they ever work on a customer’s bike.

Nate has also gotten to show off his talents with computers and woodworking, helping create many of the fixtures around the store and keeping the store’s computer systems up to date.  In his free time Nate enjoys learning computer software and programming, playing disc golf, and of course riding his bike!
