Bike Scavenger Hunt - October 16, 2016
We had our best turnout ever at this year's Bicycle Boulevard Scavenger Hunt. Bicycles East co-sponsored with the Town of Glastonbury and Bike Walk Glastonbury, in coordination with the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce's Apple Harvest Festival. Over 70 people participated and had a great time. Here they wait for the announcement of the prizes, including a bicycle donated by Bicycles East. A great morning! |

May 26, 2016 - Letter to the Editor - Putnam Bridge Updates
There has been a lot of information communicated lately about the status of the bicycle and pedestrian access on the Putnam Bridge, and a lot of questions have resulted. Last week, the Glastonbury Citizen kindly published Deb's letter to the editor that states the facts as I know them. Deb serves on the State of CT Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee that regularly receives reports directly from DOT about this project. In addition, she served as the committee's representative on the Feasibility Study Group that examined the various options for access. You can read the letter here. |
April 30, 2016 - Audubon Environmental Excellence Award
Bicycles East is so honored to have received the Environmental Excellence Award from the Audubon Center at Glastonbury. Deb received the award at the center's Earth Fair in recognition for our work for alternative transportation, bicycle safety, and respect for the environment. The Audubon does wonderful work for our community - we are truly touched by this recognition and we hope that you wll check out their programs. |
April 15, 2016 - Bike Donation to Glastonbury Youth and Family Services
Bicycles East mechanics fixed up several bikes so that we could safely donate them to Glastonbury Youth and Family Services who will get them to children that they serve. Every child deserves a bike! |
Jan. 27, 2016 - Helmet Donation
Bicycles East and Bike Walk Glastonbury teamed up with Glastonbury Youth and Family Services to provide and fit helmets to approximately 20 children and youth. We are honored to be included in this program, and feel great knowing that 20 more children will be safe when they ride their bikes in town. |
Nov. 8, 2015 - Glastonbury River Runners Race to Fill the Pantry

Bicycles East once again teamed up with Glastonbury Parks and Recreation, Bike Walk Glastonbury, and the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce to offer the Bicycle Boulevard Scavenger Hunt. Families rode the family-friendly roads of Glastonbury and earn chances to win prizes. Here is one happy winner receiving her prize at the Welcome Stage of the Glastonbury Apple Harvest Festival. October 8, 2015 - Cub Scout Pack Bike Safety Demo
Steve spent the evening at Nayaug School teaching the members of Cub Scout Pack 356 about bicycle safety. They are heading out for a bike trip this weekend, and now they are all prepared. |
America's Best Bike Shop Award - August 31, 2015

Advocacy Excellence Award - August 4, 2015
Bicycles East was one of 5 bicycle dealers nationwide to receive this "2015 Advocacy Excellence Award" at the Trek dealer show. June 10, 2015 - Glastonbury Named Bicycle Friendly Community
Glastonbury is now officially a "Bicycle Friendly Community" as designated by the League of American Bicyclists. In November 2013, Bicycles East hosted the League's VP for a bike tour and meeting with town staff, officials, and advocates, and many people committed their time and efforts. National Bike to Work Day - May 15, 2015
Bicycles East celebrated National Bike to Work Day by hosting an event to celebrate the day. Bicycle commuters met for breakfast, social time, and camaraderie. Bicycle Donation for CT Children's Medical Center - March 6, 2015
We delivered several bikes to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center. These bikes will go to children living with cancer and other illnesses as part of CCMC's Cycle for Life program. These gently used bikes were donated or traded in by our clients and refurbished by our mechanics. It is a privilege to support these children and their caregivers. |
Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby Sponsor - February 8, 2015

Glastonbury Complete Streets Policy Adopted - Feb. 2, 2015
Thank you to our Town staff and officials for passing Glastonbury's Complete Streets Policy. This is a huge step in committing to our future of bike and pedestrian-friendly roads. Apple Harvest Festival Bicycle Scavenger Hunt Oct. 19, 2014
Bicycles East worked with the Town of Glastonbury Parks and Recreation Department, Bike Walk Glastonbury, and the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce to offer the 1st annual Bicycle Scavenger Hunt. The event highlighted family friendly roads throughout town as kids and adults biked to "secret stops" and earned tickets for the prize drawing. Bicycles East donated a bike as the grand prize that was awarded at the Apple Harvest Festival to a very happy child. Here you can see a family locate the library stop and receive their tickets. |

Bicycles East has been honored by the League of American Bicyclists as a silver level Bicycle Friendly Business. This honor is awarded to businesses that promote bicycling in their communities and support their employees and customers to bicycle to the business. The honor is not reserved for bicycle stores, but is open to any business. Bicycles East is the first business in Glastonbury to received this designation. |
